Architecture is a complicated art which has been paid attention by human being from long time ago even in Paleolithic age.

Chopoghi (pipe-shapped) Wind-catcher – Kerman
Badguir (wind-catcher) is known as the masterpiece of Iranian architecture in every place in the world which could create a cool weather for houses in the hottest climate. Maybe you know that the most famous city of Badguir is Yazd and everybody knows it as “Badguirs city” but probably less people knows that the most specific Badguir of Iran located in Sijan, Kerman province.
There was a room under this badguir for keeping medicines away from heat and dust. The architecture of this construction, based on a voyage and the cool weather of the ship room, modeled the Badguir after the shape of the ship chimney and could design this Badguir.
Kurit Dam – Tabas
Desert always pictures an arid land without any water and plants in the mind, but there is a construction in Iran which disturbed this equation and has been built to restore and control water in the desert. Kurit dam is a 650-year old dam made of stone, brick, and sarooj and is 100 meters in height. This dam is considered as the most ancient dam in the world and with its little width also known as the narrowest existing sample in the world. The arch of this dam is the secret of its consistency. Thanks to its height, it was known as the highest dam in the world up to 100 years ago.
Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System
One of the most spectacular ancient structures of Iran locates in Khuzestan province which has raised admiration of all people all over the world and could register its name in UNESCO world heritage list. “Shushtar historical hydraulic system” is a collection of bridges, weirs, water mills, water falls, canals, and great underground tunnels for conducting water which are connected to each other and work systematically.
This gigantic structure has been constructed in Achaemenid era to Sasanid era so people could benefit from having fresh water. There is a dam called “Gar Gar” which blocks the river and causes the level of water goes up in order to water three tunnels. After passing the tunnel, water enters to multiple canals and after turning the wheels of mills pours into a pond-like area in the form of a water fall.
Spire Vacillatory – Isfahan
One of these structures of worldwide fame which attracts people from all over the world to Esfahan and gets them surprised is the historic and valuable Spire Vacillatory. Spire Vacillatory is an extraordinary structure which constructed on “AmoAbdollah’s mausoleum” who was one of the righteous men in 14th century.
On top of this construction that is one of the masterpieces of Iranian architecture, two exquisite minarets have been located and every minaret is 17.5m in height and their widths measure 9m. its antiquity is guessed to be since 14th century. The reason for moving Spire Vacillatory is the resonance phenomenon, simply put, the molecules of any objects are moving, some more, and some less. It is enough to move them a little, or use a force to make them move. Shaking one minaret, the other one which is exactly the same, is moving and the force put on the minaret distribute to the whole building and move it completely.
Sarooj is a traditional water-resistant mortar used in Iranian architecture, used in the construction of bridges, and ice pits or earth refrigerators (yakhchal). It is made of clay and limestone mixed in a six-to-four ratio to make a stiff mix.
